The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming...

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

When I picked this book up I expected a creepy/scary book but this was nothing like that. It was a beautiful story about a boy who is coming to terms with his mother being sick.

This story is so beautiful. It's about a boy named Conner who is living with his mother who is sick. His friends in school don't talk to him and the only friend that does want to talk to him he does not want to talk to her. She is the blame to why everyone looks at him funny and talks about what happened to his mother. He didn't want anybody to know, especially by someone else.

Everything is fine in Conner's live except the fact that his mother is sick, until a monster comes into his window and calls for him. The monster tells him he's there to tell him three stories and that he came walking because Conner asked for his help.

The story unravels and revels why Conner has asked the tree monster for help. It also tells a wonderful story about a boy losing his mother and how he's understanding and dealing with the situation.

The illustrations throughout the book describes this beautiful story even better than if it was without them. I think everyone should pick this up in its original format with the illustrations.

I definitely recommend this book to EVERYONE. It's a short book but explains so much and makes you feel all the feels.
