Harder to Find John Green Books | Fangirl Friday

11:46 AM

As said in my previous John Green post I will be talking about John Green in this series for the next few weeks in anticipation for his new book, Turtles All The Way Down, released October 10!

Today I wanted to focus on books I haven't read by John Green and that are lesser known and that I had no idea existed! Not all are available anymore, which is pretty cool because their short novels John Greens created and produced to be a perk of another project.

A star-studded anthology with a devilish hook, whose proceeds benefit 826nyc: the fabulous literacy non-profit founded by Dave Eggers.
Can you imagine the most cantankerous book editor alive? Part Voldemort, part Cruella de Vil (if she were a dude), and worse in appearance and odor than a gluttonous farm pig? A man who makes no secret of his love of cheese or his disdain of unworthy authors? That man is Herman Mildew.

The anthology opens with an invitation to a party, care of this insufferable monster, where more than 80 of the most talented, bestselling and recognizable names in YA and children’s fiction learn that they are suspects in his murder. All must provide alibis in brief first-person entries. The problem is that all of them are liars, all of them are fabulists, and all have something to hide...

Sadly, another book that was only available as a perk of something else!

This was available as a perk for people who donated to the Harry Potter Alliance's Equality FTW fundraiser.

The first section of John Green's unfinished, abandoned novel THE SEQUEL, which is a sequel to a novel that doesn't exist called THE ODD AT SEA. About the story, John says "THE SEQUEL contains a lot of the ideas that ended up in THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, although it's a very different kind of story. I worked on THE SEQUEL between 2008 and 2010 before finally putting it aside. There is of course a REASON why I abandoned it: It isn't very good. But it has some moments I still like, and I'm hoping seeing a draft like this will provide a window into one writer's process. And of course I want to raise some money for the HPA!"

THE SEQUEL is the story of a young woman named Hannah al-Hajji who finds herself alone in the world after the novel in which she is a character ends. Everyone else in the novel disappears, but she for some reason is left with us. The story costars a young student chaplain, recently graduated from college, who happens to have read the novel that Hannah was a minor character in. The selection is 6,437 words long.

(From novella introduction)

Dearest Reader,
This is a bad zombie apocalypse novella. It was written in a hurry. It is riddled with inconsistencies. And it never quite arrives at whatever point it sought to make. But remember: The $25 you donated to charity in exchange for this steaming mess of prose will help our species shuffle along, and I hope you’ll feel warmed by your good deed as you read. Thank you for decreasing the overall worldwide level of suck, and as they say in my hometown: Don’t forget to be awesome.

Best wishes!
John Green

So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis.
